Trip to Club La Santa, Lanzarote

10th March 2016

Each year, Serpentine organises a trip to Club La Santa, Lanzarote, for 7 or 10 days of training, relaxation and fun. Accommodation is in basic but comfortable self-catering apartments, with towels and bed linen provided. Whether you are a runner, cyclist, swimmer, a combination of any of these or just enjoy a multitude of sports, this camp will not disappoint. See the Activities page for an indication of what to expect if you go on the trip, the variety of training that takes place, the running and cycling routes available. The FAQ section tries to answer most of your questions about booking and logistics but if you have any specific enquiries, please contact the organisers. The trip is open to members only.

Ludovica Bruno, Kinga Bornemisza and Eddie Brocklesby are organising the trip for 2016.

PLEASE NOTE: we have sold out all slots for the last 3 years in record time, so if you wish to attend, don’t wait til the last minute to book. We do operate a waitlist, however, in the event of any dropouts. If you wish to be added (once the trip has sold out) please email lanzarote@serpentine.org.uk stating your preferences for trip duration (7 or 10 day) and room sharing preference (1-6 beds) and we’ll get back to you if additional slots do become available.  Thanks for your interest!

About Club La Santa

If you are unfamiliar with the resort, or have not been in the last year, have a look at their website, they have certainly upgraded their facilities.

Sports and activities

The potential for running, cycling & swimming is limitless. The club has recently undergone a refurbishment, added 2 more 50m pools, upgraded their bike centre, added yoga, dance, badminton, squash and other internal courts. As before, there is a 400m running track track (currently being refurbished so should be as bouncy as it will ever get for our trip); a fully-equipped gym; a closed lagoon for open-water swimming, kayaking, wind and stand up pedal surfing; tennis courts and much more. There is also a wellness centre with jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas etc. which can be booked on site for a small additional cost.Club La Santa Resort Pool

In addition to the bespoke Serpie timetable (made available ahead of the trip to help you plan), Club La Santa offers a number of additional classes, such as pilates and yoga which can be booked on site (although note some classes carry an extra charge), as well as other more ‘exotic’ classes such as fencing.

Physiotherapy and sports massage

This can be booked on site at the 'Sports Booking' centre. The prices for the various treatments are available on the website. Please note that many book up well in advance, in particular after races, so it is advisable to book early in the week. Additionally, there is also a very good sports massage therapist just a 15min walk outside of the centre (in La Santa village). His contact details and costs are below:

Trevor Simmons
Apbworks.com
To contact him for an appointment, email: apbinlasanta@live.co.uk
Costs: 1hr - €40, 1/2hr - €25

There is also a doctor should you fall ill, however, please note, you will have to pay for their time as well as any medication/bandaging (even basic anti-inflammatories) which will be charged at a rather high rate.

Eating & Shopping

There is a supermarket on site (open from 8am-1pm and 5pm-8pm daily or 8am-8pm on Fridays) which stocks a wide range of goods, including a number of products which are gluten, sugar and/or dairy free. There is also a fresh bakery in the supermarket. Please note, as this is the only supermarket on site, prices may be close to that in London, so if you know you can’t live without porridge or need a certain brand of sports nutrition, bring some with you to avoid high prices/disappointment that the store does not stock your preference. In addition to the supermarket on site, there is another supermarket in nearby La Santa town which is c. 2.5km away.Club La Santa Olympic Pool There is also a sports shop on site for any kit you may have forgotten.

Club La Santa has a number of bars and restaurants within the complex. Eating tends to be flexible and informal with a variety of options available (including self-catering) to suit all tastes. There are also a number of good restaurants in La Santa village (20-minute walk or short bike or cab ride away). During the daytime, Serpies can usually be found around the Pool Bar or at the El Lago restaurant around the new-built apartments.

Club La Santa provides free internet access in the public areas, and if you are lucky, it might reach your room as well, but this is not guaranteed.

Weather

Overall the weather at that time of year in Lanzarote is warm and sunny, with an average min. temperature of 15°C and max of 24°C during the day and eight hours sunshine a day. Water temperatures average 18°C. However, you should be prepared for all weather, since the climate is very changeable (last year we had some serious cross winds with a bit of sand thrown in for good measure). Bring a fleece sweater (it can get quite chilly at night), waterproofs and plenty of sunscreen, since the sun is particularly fierce and is often masked by the wind.
