Brooks Last Friday 5k - Entry Information

Please always check our news page for the latest news on availability of places in our races. We are increasingly selling out of places before the day. We do not want you to turn up and be disappointed.

  1. The only way to ensure you get a place is to enter by post at least 3 weeks in advance (see the How to Enter section).
  2. If you simply turn up on the day you will not be able to race – sorry.
  3. The policy of the Club is not to refund money except in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the club's Committee.

How to enter

Because of Royal Parks rules we cannot take cash (or cheques) on the day for this event. Therefore, you must enter in advance.

Please send a standard entry form to:

Malcolm French
35 Merton Road
Harrow
Middlesex
HA2 0AA

Enclose a cheque, payee Serpentine RC, amount £2 for club runners, and £4 for unattached runners, plus a stamped addressed envelope and he will post your race number to you (or you can collect your number on the day if that is easier for you).

The voucher entry system has now been withdrawn due to the race being oversubscribed every month. Holders of vouchers still in circulation will be honoured where possible but this is not guaranteed.

Medical

Please make sure you are fit enough to run 5km (3.1 miles).  If in doubt, please consult your doctor or medical practitioner.

Please complete the medical information section on the back of the race number.

For guidance on how to prepare for a running race, please visit the www.runnersmedicalresource.com website, which is regularly updated with advice from the runbritain Medical Advisory Group.

UK Athletics (our governing body) is alert to its responsibility to all participants in athletics in respect of all aspects of health and safety. One particular area that young athletes (defined by UKA as athletes aged under 35) must be aware of is the risk of cardiac problems. There have been too many instances of young athletes suffering potentially fatal heart conditions without being aware that they are at risk. UKA has worked with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) for several years, providing a screening service to athletes on the World Class Performance Programme. UKA and CRY are now seeking to encourage more athletes to use CRY's screening service to help to identify any cardiac problems that may be otherwise hidden. CRY is a charity that was established to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to the sudden cardiac death of young people. They operate a screening programme at a number of clinics around the UK and support this with mobile units that travel to other locations. Full information about CRY and their services can be found on their website at http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/ and http://www.sads.org.uk/. Young people between the age of 14 and 35 who would like to have cardiac testing can go to http://www.testmyheart.org/

Race cancellation

In the event that the race has to be cancelled, we regret that entry fees will not be refunded. The entry fee does little more than cover the costs associated with staging the race. The bulk of these costs will have to be paid whether the race goes ahead or not. The principle costs are the Race Licence from the Royal Parks Agency, the licence fee that has to be paid to the England Athletics in respect of every entrant whether they run or not, and the cost of the race numbers.
