Seminar for Marathon Runners
The Club is organising a series of marathon seminars for those running a marathon in 2015. The first seminar took place in November and covered target setting, training schedules and key sessions. Slides from the first seminar.
The second marathon seminar will cover injury prevention and treatment and nutrition. Topics will include:
- Common running injuries - cause, prevention and treatment
- Potential benefits of sports massage and self-massage to prevent and cure injuries
- Nutrition for the marathon - fact or fiction and ten top tips for great results
Speakers
Thomas Dekkers is a Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapist who specialises in treating running injuries and back pain. He sees Team GB athletes with the English Institute of Sport and practices at the Centre for Health and Human Performance, a specialised sports rehabilitation clinic on Harley Street, London.
Roberto Ciurleo is a Sport and Remedial Massage Practitioner specialising in running injuries. He offers high quality Sports Massage which has many potential benefits. He has worked at 88 international competitions during his career, including the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
Jane Nodder is an experienced nutrition practitioner and University lecturer who supports athletes with nutritional advice for peak performance in the field. She has an MSc in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey and has completed part 1 of the International Olympic Committee Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Nutrition. Her MSc research focused on dietary approaches and nutritional knowledge of non-elite marathon runners and she is now studying for a PhD at Anglia Ruskin University investigating dietary approaches to managing gastrointestinal symptoms in healthy, non-elite, endurance runners
