France

Scotland
- West Highland Way race (95 miles). http://www.westhighlandwayrace.org
- Ben Nevis race 14km: +/-1360m, you can only enter if you have evidence of having completed 3 "A" races already. http://www.bennevisrace.co.uk
Spain
- Subida Veleta, 50km: +2840m / -50m, the highest road in Europe, and Spain's second-highest mountain. All on-road, but it does go all the way to the top of the mountain at 3470m. http://www.subidaveleta.com

- Jungfrau Marathon: +1829m / -305m, most popular Swiss mountain marathon, usually sells out early. http://www.jungfrau-marathon.ch
- Graubünden-Marathon: +2682m / -402m, considered Europe's toughest marathon. http://www.graubuenden-marathon.ch
- Zermatt-Marathon: +1944m / -444m. http://www.zermattmarathon.ch

- Inferno Schilthorn: probably the toughest half marathon with 2175m ascent, finish is at 2970m. http://www.inferno.ch

United States
- Pikes Peak Marathon, Colorado Springs: +2382m / -2382m. It's very hard to break 5 hours total time although some have done it. Gruelling because of temperature extremes, protruding rocks, and the frequent loss of all toenails. http://www.pikespeakmarathon.org/index.htm
